What is the Literacy Lab?
At Brighton Elementary, we take reading seriously and have fun doing so! The Literacy Lab is where students receive extra interventions during Walk to Learn Cardinal Time to help them be successful readers. Learning to read is the first step in being life long learners. First, we learn to read and them we read things to learn.
Mrs. Rachelle Grimes, Mrs. Avis Richardson, Mrs. Tomeka Dowell, and Ms. Michelle Cooper work in the Literacy Lab.
Walk to Learn
Walk to Learn Cardinal Time is a 45 minute block set aside daily in each grade level for students to switch classes and get extra instruction in their areas of need. During this block, students receive special services including RTI.
RTI
RTI is a program where students receive intervention in their deficit areas according to the easyCBM Benchmark Assessment. RTI has three tiers. Tier 1 is regular classroom instruction. Tier 2 is a 30 minute block of small group intervention with trained personnel using research based materials. Tier 3 is a 45 minute block of small group intervention with trained personnel using research based materials to help students succeed.
“You cannot open a book without learning something.”
